Banasurasagar Dam

Banasurasagar Dam is the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in Asia located at Padinjarathara in Wayanad district. Built in 1979, this dam is located at Karamanthod, a tributary of the Kabani river, and was built to supply water to the Kakkayam Hydroelectric Project and to supply water to surrounding areas. Both the hills and the dam got their name in association with Banasuran. Banasura Hills are the second largest mountain range in Wayanad Banasura was the son of Mahabali, the demon emperor who ruled Kerala India's largest floating solar panel is located here It is a short walk from the ticket counter to the dam.KSEB's van is there for those who have Bundhimut to walk.Banasurasagar can be reached by traveling about 20 km from Mananthavadi and Kalpatta.
