Banasurasagar Dam is the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in Asia located at Padinjarathara in Wayanad district. Built in 1979, this dam is located at Karamanthod, a tributary of the Kabani river, and was built to supply water to the Kakkayam Hydroelectric Project and to supply water to surrounding areas. Both the hills and the dam got their name in association with Banasuran.
